OFF THE GRID

I just found out that July is National Hot Dog Month and I am irrationally excited even though there is only one and a half days left! Not only is it deeply rooted in my Chicago heritage, but I think most people can agree that nothing is comparable to the perfect Chicago-style hot diggity-dog.

Let me start by saying that Chicago, already famous for its uniquely loaded hot dog, is the greatest best place to celebrate National Hot Dog Month. For those non-chicagoans the famous dog includes the following ingredients: mustard (key), sweet pickle relish (the more neon the better), chopped onion, tomato, pickle, all on top of a hot dog in a poppy seed bun.

If you are not aware as to what a Chicago Hot Dog is or never had one, you should do so - National Hot Dog Month lasts till July 31.

Be careful when ordering - if you by mistake place even one wrong ingredient (*couch* ketchup *couch*), expect to be judged by hot dog makers all over the city of Chicago.

I will be enjoying one tonight while I watch the Cubs in Wrigley stadium - is there a better way to celebrate such a joyous occasion? I think not.

Hot Dog Fun Facts

  • Hot Dogs are considered to be America's favorite foods since it has a long-lasting association with Baseball.
